Yono Rummy vs ABC Rummy: A 2026 Guide to Legal Free-to-Play Rummy
YonoPlayz Team · Updated
Short answer: rummy is legal to play in India. Rummy for money online is not. Since the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, no app can legally offer games where you deposit money hoping to win more, whether the game is called skill or chance. That covers any real-money version of apps sold as "Yono Rummy", "ABC Rummy" or similar. Free versions that use virtual chips only are allowed.
What the Act changed
- Online money games are banned. The Act prohibits offering any online game played for stakes in the hope of winning money or other stakes. The old "game of skill" defence no longer applies.
- Advertising and promotion are banned. Advertising or promoting online money games is an offence. That is why game directories like ours can no longer list or link to them, and why we removed these listings.
- Payments are blocked. Banks and payment providers may not process transactions for online money games.
- Social games and e-sports are allowed. The Act explicitly recognises and promotes online social games and e-sports that involve no stakes.
The penalties target operators, advertisers and payment facilitators. Offering online money games carries up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to ₹1 crore. For a fuller explanation, see our legal information page.
So, Yono Rummy or ABC Rummy?
We cannot recommend either. Both names belong to a family of rummy apps often called "Yono games", which were mostly installed from APK links instead of an app store. They were generally promoted with deposit bonuses and cash-out minimums: exactly the features the Act now prohibits. Many such apps exist under similar names, versions change often, and we cannot verify that any current build is free of real-money features. So we list neither.
If a version of either app is genuinely free-to-play, it should pass every check below.
Checklist: is this rummy app genuinely free-to-play?
- No deposits. There is no "Add Cash", wallet top-up, or UPI payment for entry fees.
- No cash-outs. There is no way to move a balance to a bank account, UPI ID or wallet.
- Chips stay virtual. Coins can never be converted into money, gift vouchers, recharges or prizes. Buying extra coins can be fine, but if coins can ever turn back into something of value, it is a money game.
- No paid referrals. "Refer and earn" schemes that pay in money are a red flag.
Red flags to walk away from
- Download links shared through Telegram or WhatsApp "agents".
- Promises like "withdraw in 5 minutes" or "minimum redeem ₹100".
- Requests to pay a person's UPI ID instead of an in-app store.
- A new APK name every few weeks after the old one stops working.
If you lose money to an app like this, report it on the national cyber-crime portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call the 1930 helpline.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Yono Rummy legal in India in 2026?
Rummy itself is legal, but any version that takes deposits or pays out money is an online money game, and those cannot be legally offered in India under the Online Gaming Act, 2025. Only free-to-play versions, where chips can never be exchanged for money, are allowed.
Why did YonoPlayz remove Yono Rummy and ABC Rummy?
We removed every app we could not confirm as free-to-play. The Act also bans advertising and promoting online money games, so we no longer link to real-money apps.
How can I tell if a rummy app is really free-to-play?
A free-to-play app has no "Add Cash" or deposit option, no way to cash out, and virtual chips that can never be converted into money, vouchers or prizes.
